Car and Driver claims as much, and says that th e new model will appear at the NY Auto Show in April.
So just as the Fiesta dies out, Toyota will swoop in to eat Ford’s lunch.

I really do wonder how much of that decision (w/r/t Mazda) came from Ford killing the Fiesta...

It makes sense. I assume that since the Mazda 2 is sold in PR and other us territories it’s federalized

Toyota needs to stop this. They should give us the Yaris Ativ hatchback and either the Vios sedan or the JDM Corolla (which is smaller than the US Corolla). You know, a real Toyota.
Also remember that Mazda still
sells the
2 hatch under its
own name in Puerto Rico, and this on
e you actually can bring to the
US with no problem since PR is already the US.

“Lunch” being that one annoying coworker who comes to the group outing but only orders an iced tea.

We’ve had the iA since the Scion days and it has always been a re-badged Mazda 2. The new thing is that they might be making a re-badged version of the Mazda hatch.

I don’t get it - Mazda doesn’t offer the 2 in the states (presumably because they don’t think they can make money on them ,) but Toyota thinks it can buy them from Mazda, sell them as Toyotas and make money?

Toyota has a repeat market for their subcompacts. Mazda never really did.
